Liberty Music Program（LMP) began in 2013 initially as a Community Arts Tokyo Program and since then has been taken on by Ishinomaki Christian Center. The goal of the program is that through music children would dare to dream. Our hope is that the children will know that they are deeply loved, and be encouraged and healed through music. The program offers music lessons and classes, professional workshops, and events such as a gospel music festival.
LMP has been invited to various schools and community venues to host Gospel Workshops. This can include a dance lesson, a classical music concert, and a lesson on singing Black Gospel music. It has been a joy to see how Black Gospel music really brings joy to the students and teachers alike. We are always presented with the opportunity to glorify the Lord by explaining the meaning behind the music throughout the workshop.
Liberty Kids Choir started with the help of Sendai Singer songwriter, Kaori Omiya for children from age 3 to 12. They gather bi-weekly at a local community center, to enjoy games and learning songs and music together. This space creates an opportunity for ICC staff to invest long term in the next generation. The children performed with Kaori Omiya at the Gospel festivals in Sendai and in Ishinomaki.
